On Saturday January 15 2022, Kylli’s Executive Vice President of Real Estate Development, John Elwood joined a panel to help judge a FIRST Tech Challenge robotics competition at Wilcox High School in Santa Clara.
FIRST Tech Challenge students learn to think like engineers. Teams design, build, and code robots to compete in an alliance format against other teams. Robots are built from a reusable platform, powered by Android technology, and can be coded using a variety of levels of Java-based programming.
The program is aimed at students in grades 7-12 who are interested in building and programming their own robot from a kit and then testing it in competition against other teams. The students learn invaluable life lessons from working through team collaboration and the values that come with open communications, problem solving and being inspired to go on to college and majoring towards careers in STEM.
The event was a great success and John was delighted to be able to judge the competition.
